His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet Visits Swiss Parliament

Dharamshala: - Addressing the Switzerland-Tibet Parliamentary Group that has taken up the issue of Tibet with the government for 25 years, His Holiness the Dalai Lama the spiritual leader of Tibet Tuesday said it was a great honour to speak to elected representatives of the people.

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate described his efforts to foster democracy among Tibetans since 1952, culminating in his passing his political responsibilities to the elected leadership in 2011.

His Holiness stated that Tibet supporters were not so much pro-Tibet as pro-justice and reiterated that the Tibetan struggle was determinedly non-violent. Following appeals in vain to the UN in the 1960s, the Tibetan administration concluded in 1974 that sooner or later they would have to talk directly to China. At the time the Cultural Revolution was in full swing.

In 1979, they made formal contact and in the 1980s Hu Yaobang visited Lhasa and apologised for what had taken place. However, policy hardened after he was dismissed and hardened further after the Tiananmen Square incident.

His Holiness said that although contacts with China ceased in 2010, support for the Middle Way Approach has been growing among writers and intellectuals and other members of the Chinese public.

"It may be that the new leadership will take a more realistic view, but it's too early to say. Meanwhile, among our concerns is the preservation of Tibetan Buddhism, an ancient culture that remains relevant today, and Tibet's fragile ecology. At the same time generations change, but the Tibetan spirit remains strong."

The final event of the afternoon was a meeting with the Press preceded by representatives of each of Switzerland's seven political parties voicing concern about the ongoing situation in Tibet.

They expressed support and solidarity with the Tibetan people and called on the Swiss government to pay as much attention to respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law as to Switzerland's impending free trade agreement with China.

"I have visited this country several times since 1973," His Holiness said, "and I'm happy to be here again. It seems that support for the Tibetan people is increasing thanks to you."

He mentioned his retirement from political responsibility and sketched out his three commitments to promoting human happiness by talking about human values, fostering inter-religious harmony and that as a Tibetan, and someone in whom Tibetans repose their trust, he remains a free spokesman on their behalf.

In conclusion he referred to meetings he has held with Chinese students and activists who have expressed support for the Middle Way Approach and stated clearly that if the Chinese people as a whole were aware of it, they would support it too.

By Kirby Robinson

Begging Evangelist
Benny Hinn

Benny Hinn wants to get out of debt. Can you give him $2.5 million? We say that is a bad bad thing.

Poor Benny Hinn is in debt. Guess the price tag on fast cars, multi million dollar homes, and life after Paula White comes with a big price tag. Oh, and let’s not forget that owning a private jet and shopping on Rodeo Drive can get a little costly. So Benny wants you to pay off his debts. Hey Benny, why not start shopping at Walmart, drive a Ford, and fly Southwest Airlines.

Special Edition – Haunted Collector Becomes the Humiliated Collector, Part 1

By Kirby Robinson

Sometimes you have to write about people you don’t wish to write about. This is one of those blogs, but unless you hold onto your morals about reporting any deception, sleight of hand, or lie whether large or small, you lose your grip.

I really like some people so I will turn my back on their deception. That was a little lie so that gets a pass. I like that show so what if they faked a case? It was great to watch! All these things are easy for some to let slide. What happens can be seen in the show Paranormal State and with the team PRS. They might have been on solid moral grounds in the beginning.

Lorraine Warren is a fake but we’ll let it slide.

Faked evidence that’s okay, let it slide.

Andrew Calder was never an Episcopal priest we know that but that’s cool let it slide.

In the end, we faked everything and that’s cool.

I was sick to learn that Chip Coffey was asked to appear on John Zaffis’ show Haunted Collector. This is a show I had no real issues with but that one simple event raises way too many red flags due to the fact that Mr. Coffey has been associated with three fake programs, namely Paranormal State, Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal and Celebrity Ghost Hunt.

So if you have a quality show why do you need to bring in a person that has a cloud over their credibility? There are many better know psychics in and out of the paranormal field that are more well known and have more followers.

- Did Chip Coffey beg to be on the show? Let’s not forget that Chip’s suffered two recent failures on getting his own TV show. 1] Celebrity Ghost Hunt tanked. 2] Chip couldn’t raise the $17,000 for Haunted Ghost Tours Investigated. For Chip, not being seen on TV means he’s out of people’s minds.

- Was it to help in the show’s ratings? That’s doubtful.

- Or is there something going on that the public doesn’t know about?

You can connect Chip and John to three events that make some go say what?

1 The Haunting in Connecticut case which has been very controversial from the beginning. Additionally, Loraine Warren played a role it.

2 Both had an association with Bob Hunnicutt.

Along with everyone on the list they have never responded to this situation, leaving important question unanswered.

3 Andrew Calder was never an Episcopal priest, as we have proven in our most recent book. Unfortunately, Calder helped keep his lies going for years.

Chip’s appearance lasted for barely one minute! Was it worth the loss of integrity the show once had? Now we have to question each and every action taken on the show. What happens if we start to uncover other deceptions [which we did]? And finally, how long have they been deceiving the viewers?

This episode is one hour long featuring 2 cases. We’ll cover both of them.

Whatsoever Community Center is located in Kansas City, MO. Here is a link to their site:

Also, go to Google and type in: ghosts at whatsoever community center Kansas City mo.

You’ll notice that many paranormal groups have been at the center doing investigations. The viewers aren’t given this information. Why not?

The viewer is told by director Charlie Gascich that they need help ASAP. Children are refusing to enter the building. So John Zaffis and his team rushes to the scene.

Note it appears that John’s daughter, Aime’e appears to float from being bored to being mad throughout the interview. Did they expect demons to be after the kids?

Here’s what we get:

- Two young girls in white dresses standing on a stairway. Can we say The Shining?

- Punching bags swinging back and forth.

- Ring timer going off.

- Woman by the name of Shani Castle claims that she felt something pass through her.

None of the above sound terribly freighting like the place is turning into hell house or Amityville Horror. We can lay to rest the above claims by using logic.

1 Have any of the kids recently seen The Shining or any other ghost films?

2 Punching bags can easily be moved. During the walkthrough the bags are moving.

3 The timer has an On/Off switch that can be easily reached and turned on.

4 Can this claim be proven? A little Googling and we see that Ms. Castle has friends and relatives that work at Whatsoever.

An even handier tool of investigation is to call the Whatsoever Community Center. You’ll find the number on the website.

1 The Center likes to get exposure via these paranormal claims.

2 Most of the staff laughs off the paranormal claims altogether.

3 They make money from time to time due to these claims.

If Zaffis and team had done this simple investigation, they could have saved time and money. But maybe the producers forced this case on them. Who knows?

The first night of investigation produces nothing more than tricks worn out by every other fake paranormal programs from Ghost Hunters to Paranormal State.

1 They set up ghost hunting devices that haven’t been proven to detect ghosts.

2 Doors slam shut. We never see them slam shut-- we hear something and see the aftermath.

3 An EVP session takes place and they claim it says yes [not until they prime the viewer to hear yes].

4 Ring timers go off? Do we see it go off? No, only the aftermath.

5 The ghost surveillance camera goes off repeatedly do our trusty investigators rush up? No they slowly walk up and by gosh, the last photo we see has something.

The next day we learn that they have investigated the boxing world of Kansas City and found one strange death.

Being a fan of boxing, I know about the history of boxing in Kansas City. At one point it was very popular in the area as it was a sport that the poor could take a shot at getting rich fast. Back in the 20s and 30s and even up to the 60s it was much different from the sport you see today. Training for many was shoddy. Matches went well past the 12 rounds you see today--some went as long as two men could keep fighting. It was a winner takes all, no splitting the purse. Claims about the mob being in it are true.

Deaths back then, and even today, outside of the ring from brain injuries were and are common. There is nothing strange about Tex’s death. What is strange is that they think the viewer is going to buy that there was only one death!

On Wednesday, we put this case to rest and have to deal with some bitter Coffey.

But we feel we must share this Waylon Jennings song with Chip and John.

Residual Haunts & the Laws of Theromodynamics

By Reverend Mark Hunnemann

Perhaps no concept is so universally assumed to be true in the paranormal community than that of a residual haunt. Along with intelligent haunt, poltergeist, and demonic, the residual haunt is alleged to one of four forms of haunting. However, there is a strong consensus amongst paranormal investigators that the residual haunt is the most common type of haunt. In fact, for most, the vast majority of paranormal activity is attributed to residual activity. For this reason alone, the notion of residual haunt is of immense importance. One is left to wonder why there is so little self-reflection within the paranormal community regarding this topic—it is simply assumed to be true. My purpose here is to show that it is a vacuous notion, with no basis in fact.

For the sake of those without prior knowledge, a residual haunt is a paranormal hypothesis which states that inanimate materials can absorb some form of energy from living beings, during moments of high tension ( e.g. traumatic death). This stored energy can be released, resulting in a display of the recorded activity. These “hauntings" are not intelligent but simply non-interactive recordings similar to a movie or a tape recorder.

A moments communion with common sense reveals the crucial role, for good or ill, that this omni-accepted belief entails. It either has tremendous explanatory power (85% of paranormal phenomena), or Satan has us whipped. The stakes are high and Christians cannot afford to be wrong on this one--too much is at stake.

This is a relatively complex issue, so I have decided to break it down into manageable segments. In this section I want to focus on how the concept of residual haunts is contradictory to science—in particular, how it is contrary to the laws of thermodynamics. This will be an argument from science and not explicitly from the bible—all truth is God’s truth.

This may surprise you because oftentimes folks will appeal to the First Law of Thermodynamics (law of energy conservation) in support of either intelligent ghosts or residual haunts. The argument goes like this: since energy cannot be destroyed, then when people die, their energy has to go somewhere. With what I consider several steps of logic missing in-between, the conclusion is then made that this provides a scientific basis for intelligent or trapped spirits. Regarding residual haunts, it is stated that the first law (conservation) also can explain why these alleged non-intelligent haunts can morph and move so remarkably—it is simply energy changing its form.

However, there are THREE Laws of Thermodynamics, and the Second law is particularly overlooked in this discussion. The Second Law of Thermodynamics deals with entropy of energy. Energy experiences entropy until thermal equilibrium has been reached. This law explains why perpetual motion machines are impossible in the world God has created. All scientific laws, like gravity, have been woven into the fabric of His universe—ensuring that the cosmos coheres and works—and that it is discoverable. But we digress…

To help explain how the second law works, consider what would happen if you took a glass of water and put several drops of red food coloring in it. Immediately, the red drops will begin to disperse—without agitating or stirring the contents. This dispersion will continue until the red food coloring has reached equilibrium—it has been evenly distributed throughout the container. In the end, you have pink water all throughout the glass!

In like fashion, when energy has been released from its container (bio-electric energy from human body), then it will disperse until it has reached equilibrium in surrounding environment. Though the energy has not been destroyed, it has been very significantly “watered-down”.Just as it would be impossible for the food coloring to stay clustered in the center of the glass (unless acted upon by an outside agent), so it would be impossible for released energy to remain clustered somewhere in the environment.

It is vital to note at this point, that the Laws of Thermodynamics are considered by scientists to be absolute—there are no known exceptions. Though the Laws of Motion are, at least theoretically, seen to be non-absolute, that is not the case with thermodynamics. For example. The Second Law is considered to hold true across the board, regardless of circumstances. This is important to keep in mind, especially if one simply dismisses my argument by saying, “Well, the paranormal realm is full of mystery and energy acts differently in that realm.” A thousand times no! That line of “logic” is known as special pleading, and is logical fallacy. Also, energy is energy. We quantify paranormal energy all the time—why question an absolute law of science at this juncture?

Consider this scenario: in my hometown there was a bloody battle during the War for Independence. It is also where I had my first paranormal experience; I saw a shadow figure decked out in military garb of that era. Many consider battlefields to be the classic example of perfect conditions for the creation of residual energy. How did that happen?

The violent fashion in which these men died is said to do two things: it violently releases the bio-electric energy of these young men; and it creates “shock waves” due the violence involved. All this emotionally charged energy is then absorbed into the surrounding environment—in this case it would have been the soil beneath their feet and the air around them (there is nothing else around to be absorbed into).

For arguments sake, suppose there is an explosion of emotionalized energy when the guns go off.  This release of energy “hits” the soil (or the interior brick wall if you are in a building). Suppose further, it even penetrates the soil or brick. The alleged result is a cluster of energy that provides the basis for residual paranormal activity…a cluster of energy that is sufficient enough to cause all manner of paranormal activity.

This is where the residual theory slams head-first into an absolute law of science. ANY energy that was emitted by this traumatic event MUST immediately begin to disperse until equilibrium has been reached. This is entropy. Like the red drops and the glass of water, the alleged released energy MUST be un-clustered and “watered down”. But unlike the glass of water, the new container is the soil, air, or brick. Meaning that the cluster of traumatic, emotionalized energy particles will experience massive entropy or dispersion…losing any and all alleged ability to perform anything. Let me say it another way, the explanation for residual haunts contradicts one of the most absolute (no known exceptions unlike laws of motion) laws of nature.

Without the energy remaining clusterized indefinitely, then the whole foundation for residual haunt collapses, and the entire superstructure with it.
Unless there is an exterior force acting upon the released energy cluster created by the violent deaths, then the clusters of energy will immediately experience entropy. The same holds true of the walls of a penitentiary or asylum. The way some folks talk you would think that inanimate matter (walls) has assumed human characteristics. The walls do not “witness” anything because it is brick or rock. Once again, no matter how much violent energy has been released within those walls, in every case the alleged energy MUST have dispersed immediately. It  makes no difference if it is quartz or whatever—energy may conduct better through some material, BUT IT CANNOT BE STORED THERE FOR EVEN A SECOND.

Consider the most powerful display of the release of energy in nature—lightning. When it hits an object, how long does that object remain “energized”? How long does the energy remain clustered in the tree? If lightning hits a tree, then a second after the strike this massive amount of energy has virtually disappeared. Compare this with the relatively tiny amount of energy allegedly released during a traumatic death. If…if there is any release, it is gone IMMEDIATELY…the victim of entropy.

Remember, energy is energy, and we need to stop anthropomorphizing it…giving it personal traits—even if these personal traits are “non-intelligent” (that gave me a headache because it is so absurd) Unless you create a different category of energy unknown to science, then it must obey the law of entropy and quickly move out to equilibrium.

I am not going to drag this out. The only thing I would reiterate is that entropy of released energy is immediate and quick…much quicker than the food coloring analogy. Next week I examine other issues related to residuals. For now, science…SCIENCE tells us that what I saw on the battlefield was not a residual playback. (interesting that it took off when provoked biblically).

SCIENCE TELLS US THAT THE FOUNDATION FOR THE THEORY OF RESIDUAL HAUNT IS CONTRADICTORY TO AN ABSOLUTE LAW OF SCIENCE…ENERGY CANNOT REMAIN CLUSTERED—NO MATTER WHAT THE SUBSTANCE OR CIRCUMSTANCES. PERIOD.

Bad Bad Thing Award Goes to Evangelist Juanita Bynum

By Kirby Robinson

Evangelist Juanita Bynum

Evangelist Juanita Bynum thinks she is above the law and that she doesn’t have to share the profits she made from being false prophet. That’s a bad bad thing.

For many years, she appeared on Praise the Lord, a program on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Juanita claimed she was a prophet and she would sing and dance about the stage streaming sentences that she claimed came right from God and angels.

But when her preacher husband, Pastor Thomas Weeks, decide to beat her up in an Atlanta Airport hotel parking lot in front of people which led to the ex-couple’s banishment from PTL.

Now she feels that she is above the law and doesn’t have to follow the laws that you and I must follow. Does that sound like a prophet of God? Or does it sound like she did a bad bad thing?

Watch this video and you’ll go…huh?

She claims if you give her money then you’ll be healed.

Issue 113 – PRS: Drugs, Sex & Lies about the Catholic Church

By Kirby Robinson

Sometimes a story just falls into your lap, which is what took place this week. For quite some time, there has been very little mention of PRS, Ryan Buell or the many members of his inner circle. We still get stories sent to us but we are just tired of him and all the false stories and claims he shares. If you still buy his garbage, you’re brain dead and can’t be helped.

But sometimes there are stories that just have to be reported no matter how bored you are with the subject.

Mr. Buell recently sent out a lengthy press release in order to get people to attend a webinar about the subject of demonology. We won’t post the endless release, but there is one section that really exposes how low they have gone. It shows that only people with degenerate minds could sink to such a level.

Here is the section:

In 2004, Ryan Buell and the PRS were contacted by the Roman Catholic Church to request assisting a Bishop in determining if a case met the Vatican criteria for approving a formal exorcism. By the time the case was over, PRS witnessed a blood-like substance materializing on the walls, levitation of objects, deafening pounds coming from inside the walls, and possession. Several PRS members were attacked, and Buell's life was threatened on more than one occasion. This is one of the cases that we will cover in Buell's new online course, "Overview & History of Demonology." Since 2004, Buell and PRS have assisted the Church in over a dozen Vatican approved exorcisms as well as assisting law enforcement and psychiatrists. Although Buell is not a demonologist, he is without a doubt one of the most knowledgeable investigators on the subject today.

Now let’s break it down:

In 2004, Ryan Buell and the PRS were contacted by the Roman Catholic Church to request assisting a Bishop in determining if a case met the Vatican criteria for approving a formal exorcism.

Notice how the term Vatican is used? This is an effort to make it appear that the team has a close relationship with them.

The above sentence contains about the only truth in this section. A highly placed source within the archdiocese of Pittsburg, who asked that his name not be revealed, stated on the record that the church did ask Penn State Paranormal Research Society to help them gather evidence of a possible demonic case. That’s all. The team gathered audio and video proof and none of the members took part in anything beyond that.

There is a new field within the study of Psychology/Criminology that looks at how guilty individuals phrase their sentences. It is very telling in this case. It appears that it is only bad wording but using the new tool being developed the sentence would read:

In 2004, Ryan Buell and the PRS wanted to be contacted by the Roman Catholic Church to assist a Bishop in determining if a case met the Vatican criteria for approving a formal exorcism.

The term Vatican is out of place here as the proper wording would be the “Church.”

By the time the case was over, PRS witnessed a blood-like substance materializing on the walls, levitation of objects, deafening pounds coming from inside the walls, and possession. Several PRS members were attacked, and Buell's life was threatened on more than one occasion.

By the time the case was over what really happened isn’t close to the above description. A source that was a part of PS/PRS at that time states that what really took place wasn’t shocking at all.

a blood-like substance materializing on the walls,

Never took place.

levitation of objects,

Never took place.

deafening pounds coming from inside the walls,

Deafening pounds---like in weight? Ha ha. Well, no deafening pounds or poundings took place.

and possession.

Never took place.

Several PRS members were attacked,

Never took place.

and Buell's life was threatened on more than one occasion.

Never took place.

Our source states that the team went to the home to gather evidence and at the end of the night turned what they gathered over and left.

Where do these deceptions come from? His early Paranormal State deceptions from season 1. Ryan spoke about his personal demon. There were also false claims of Ryan being something of a hybrid exorcist for the Church.

We wonder if Lorraine Warren was responsible for this section of the press release. It reads like one of the many faked cases that Ed and Lorraine Warren were always a part of. These are the false claims that she makes about her so-called demonic cases that she handled and has sought to cash in on. Lorraine has never asked the families’ permission to do so, nor has she ever shared any of the profits.

The press release states that this case will be featured in Ryan’s new rip off adventure, as he will tell you everything you need to know about demonology. When he taught his last class, he used the “I Am Six” case as a basis for it and even promised that the family members would be there. What Ryan failed to mention:

- He never asked the M. family if it was okay to use the case. Had he asked, the family would have said no.

- Like his mentor, Lorraine Warren, he never shared any of the profits from the case.

Has Ryan asked the Church if it was okay to reveal details and evidence concerning this case? Has he contacted the person that was at the center of the case of alleged possession?

PRS have assisted the Church in over a dozen Vatican-approved exorcisms

Ryan knows little, if anything, about the process of gaining approval for an exorcism from the Church. The Vatican plays no role in granting permission. This is done on an archdiocese level but it appears that the press release is trying to give the impression that PRS has a close relationship with the Vatican. So we decided to see if this is true.

We contacted the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi. After looking over the press release that we shared with the office, he strongly doubted that the Vatican would have any relationship with Ryan Buell or his group. Father Lombardi doubted the Catholic Church would reach out for help as they have plenty of qualified individuals within the Church.

So far, we have uncovered only one true statement-- the rest have been lies.

as assisting law enforcement and psychiatrists. Although Buell is not a demonologist, he is without a doubt one of the most knowledgeable investigators on the subject today.

The above is an example of the mish-mash commonly found in bios and press releases for fake psychics. There is no doubt a fake demonologist who is leading a cult would do the same thing. Who are these mental health professionals? Would they turn to a person who has no credits in the field? The same with law enforcement—and again, no names or agencies are mentioned. We strongly doubt that anyone has turned to Ryan. As to the claim that Ryan is the most knowledgeable investigator on the subject, during season 1 of Paranormal State Ryan claimed that Lorraine Warren was the only true demonologist in the world.

RYAN BUELL -- THE NEW L. RON HUBBARD

A while back, we exposed the campaign that PRS was conducting against a woman who was trying to get refunds owed to many people. The services that people paid for included various events such as PRS paraphernalia, camps, seminars, and field trips that were organized by PRS. The woman also questioned their dubious business practices. If you read the below referenced blog and go to the Ripoff Report and the 65+ comments, you can see that PRS has gone from a small student group to a cult of personality with religious overtones that run from Christian, pagan, new age and made up religious thinking.

Two tools most often used in a cult to form group control are drugs and sex. The report of a young lady who recently escaped the grasp of the inner core of PRS, reveals that the cult has descended into using funds raised from PRS’s events to subsidize the drugs which drives the sexual orgies and hero worship of Ryan Buell.

She turned to the Eye for help. She has found a safe place to recover and get the emotional help she needs as she deprograms from the cult influence and the devout members of PRS who seek to silence anyone who slips away from the clutches of the cult.

The most shocking line she spoke, and it ringed so true is “Ryan Buell is the new L Ron Hubbard.” It doesn’t get any scarier than that.

On Saturday, read about how the SyFy program the HAUNTED COLLECTOR becomes the HUMILIATED COLLECTOR.

Flags Fly in French Market to Welcome Dalai Lama

By Kari Dequine Harden

NEW ORLEANS — Squares of blue, white, red, green and yellow cloth danced in the breezy sunshine along the awnings of French Market on Saturday morning.

Across the city, business owners and residents hung the brightly colored Tibetan Buddhist prayer flags over doors and on balconies as a welcoming gesture to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and to celebrate his first visit to New Orleans May 16 to May 18.

According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the flags send prayers of love, compassion and happiness to all beings in the world through the wind.

Each colored flag has a different prayer, and each is connected to an element of the Earth. “May all beings be free of suffering and free of the causes of suffering — that’s the core of all the prayers,” Neil Guidry, Tulane University professor of Tibetan Studies in the School of Social Work, said of the symbols and mantras printed on the flags.

The nature of resilience is a focal point of the events surrounding the visit, and the Dalai Lama’s message, said Ronald Marks, dean of Tulane’s School of Social Work.

“Resilience speaks to these qualities that enable us to recover, even thrive, in the face of adversity,” Marks said at a Prayer Flag Day news conference on Saturday. “The people of New Orleans understand this well, and this week, the people of Boston understand this well.”

Marks said the Dalai Lama accepted the invitation to visit New Orleans to pay tribute to the resilience of the community and its residents over the past seven years.

It was Marks who issued the invitation to the Dalai Lama in India in September 2011, and it was Marks who in March 2012 opened the official letter of acceptance. For the past 12 years, Marks has taken a group of graduate students to Dharamsala, India, the home of the Dalai Lama and his government in exile.

The Tulane program grew out of a connection Marks made with Guidry, who in 1997 started the Louisiana Himalaya Association, an organization created to “form a cultural and social service bridge between the Tibetan Refugees in Northern India and the people elsewhere that have so much to learn from their wisdom,” according to its website.

Prayer flags were handed out to a host of city, community and religious leaders at Saturday’s news conference, including New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond. The Dalai Lama’s message of peace, reconciliation and conciliation is important not just for the world but “for us as a city,” Aymond said, specifically in the “battle against murder, violence and racism.”

Marks described over 60 events happening throughout the community in connection with the Dalai Lama’s historic visit. While the public talks are sold out, they will be livestreamed, and numerous other events are free and open to the public.

Robert Turner, owner of Silk Road Collection on Magazine Street, hung prayer flags in front of his Asian antique store Saturday. He said he plans to livestream the Dalai Lama’s public talks on a large screen in his store on May 17 and May 18.

“I’ve been a fan of the Dalai Lama forever,” Turner said. “He’s a great individual. I’m not particularly Buddhist per se, but he’s a great spiritual leader. He’s compassionate, loving, fun and funny.”

Not to be disrespectful, Turner said, but “He seems like someone who it would be a lot of fun to sit down and have a beer with.”

The message of peace, compassion and acceptance of everyone is “something the world could use more of,” Turner said.

There also is an extensive community outreach component, aimed at bringing the message of the Dalai Lama to those who might not otherwise have access to it.

“Whatever city you come from, whatever religion you believe in, love, compassion and understanding are the foundation of our lives,” said the Venerable Tich Thien Ngo. of Phuoc Nguyen Temple.

One of the events will feature a Tibetan Bazaar and the five-day-long creation of a sand mandala in the Ernest J. Morial Convention Center from May 14 to May 17.

The sand mandala is part of the “mystic art” of Tibet, Marks described, during which monks will create an elaborate painting using colored sand before whisking it away and carrying in a procession to the Mississippi River, allowing the river, the Gulf of Mexico, and the ocean to “further spread the message of peace and compassion.”
